NEWPORT, Ky. (10/26) - On the same day they moved up one spot in the NAIA national poll, the No. 5 Martin Methodist women's soccer team came up even with Siena Heights University in double overtime, 1-1. With unfavorable weather conditions in the Kentucky/Middle Tennessee areas all afternoon, the RedHawks battled through three weather delays during the match that moved the MMC record to 9-3-3 this season.
Heather Holley (Freshman/Pulaski, Tenn.) scored her fifth goal of the season in the 21st minute when a rebound from a previous shot stopped dead in a puddle of water, and allowed Holley to punch it in. Mor Efraim (Sophomore/Nevatim, Israel) was credit with the assist on the score, but it wasn't long before the Saints countered off a free kick that led to the 1-1 tie just five minutes later.
Neither team would find the net again, despite 29 total shots from the teams combined. MMC outshot SHU, with 13 shots on goal to the Saints' four. Daniel Sofer (Sophomore/Hadera, Israel) tallied five shots on goal, followed closely by Efraim's four, but SHU's Haley Mancini held down the goal with 12 total saves.
Martin Methodist closes out the regular season at home this Sunday, October 31st at 3pm. The top ten matchup will feature the No. 5 RedHawks hosting No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College.
