DECATUR, Ala. - Battling through a cold rainy-turned-snowy evening of soccer, MMC fell by a 1-0 score to Baker (Kan.) for the second year in a row in the second round. A second half goal propelled Baker to the win, finalizing MMC's season at 14-2-2.
The RedHawks outshot the Wildcats 14 to 7, but Baker matched MMC's six shots on frame and was able to slip one past for the narrow edge. MMC's keeper Hanit Schwarz made four saves in the contest, as Nicole O'Donnell led the team with four total shots on goal.
Nearly 20 minutes into the second half, after a 0-0 draw at the half, the Wildcats edged in the game-winner and held their lead. MMC strung together five shots in the final five minutes, but came up short despite a late-game effort.
The RedHawks close out the season at 14-2-2, and will say goodbye to seniors Hanit Schwarz and Nicole O'Donnell, both completing successful four year collegiate careers at Martin Methodist.
