PULASKI, Tenn. - MMC women's soccer looked to be on their way to a draw with Faulkner University in the first half of the matchup, but converted on several opportunities during the second half to earn the 2-0 win. The RedHawks handed the Eagles their first season loss, while improving to 3-0 on their young campaign.
Faulkner, a team receiving votes in the national NAIA poll, gave MMC a test in the first half, and coupled with missed RedHawk opportunities to enter halftime with no score.
An energized Martin Methodist squad emerged from the break, taking advantage of the Eagles, worn down from their first half performance. MMC quickly pressured, controlling the field early in the second frame, taking shot after shot. The eventual game-winner came off the head of Nicole O'Donnell, who converted a Daniel Sofer corner kick in less than five minutes into the half.
A heavily competitive match, the RedHawks later used a yellow card on Faulkner for the second score, as Yalu Borbolla added the insurance goal with less than 10 minutes to go on a penalty kick just outside the box.
MMC tallied 21 total shots, eight on goal, while Hanit Schwarz collected her third clean sheet of the year, making seven saves on the night.
The RedHawks take their 3-0 record on the road for the first time this season on Sunday, squaring off with NCAA Division II Alabama-Huntsville, scheduled for a 4pm kickoff in Huntsville, Alabama.
