PULASKI, Tenn. – The 11th-ranked Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team used two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 victory at Cumberland University Thursday afternoon.
After seven first-half shots came up empty, the RedHawks (4-2-0) found the back of the net less than two minutes into the second half on a goal from Mor Efraim. Yalu Borbolla picked up her third assist of the season on the goal.
The Bulldogs (3-1-0) would draw level in the match's 63rd minute when Shauna Gilpin slipped a shot past RedHawks goalkeeper Meaghan Storie.
With time winding down in regulation, Laura Graham's unassisted goal – the third of her career – at the 80:49 mark would give the RedHawks the lead for good.
The RedHawks also picked up timely goalkeeping from Storie, who made three saves in her fourth victory of the season.
Storie's counterpart, Bulldogs keeper Lindsay Kitson, stopped four of the RedHawks' six shots on goal.
Despite being outshot 16-15 by the Bulldogs, the RedHawks still managed to pull through for the win in a gritty effort, according to RedHawks head coach Tyson John.
"This was a complete team victory today. We were unlucky to give up a goal in the second half but we fought hard to recover, score and win this match. This was a very valid team performance."
John continued, adding that the Bulldogs could be one of the toughest teams the RedHawks face this season.
"Cumberland is a great club. They had a big upset a week ago and they gave us a great game today. I wouldn't be surprised if they wind up in the Top 25 next week. This was a good test for us this afternoon."
The RedHawks will return to action against another quality opponent this weekend when William Carey University visits Pulaski on Sunday.
The No. 20 Lady Crusaders (3-0-0) were in action Thursday night against Northwood University.
Kickoff in Sunday's match is set for 2PM at MMC's East Campus.
