PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 8 Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team flexed its muscle from the opening kickoff Saturday evening on in a 4-1 victory over Saint Francis (Ind.) at Grissom Pitch.
The RedHawks (2-0) scored a pair of goals each half, with Linzi Taylor (SR/Glasgow, Scotland) and Millene Cabral (SO/Porto Alegre, Brazil) opening the scoring with goals in the sixth and 16th minutes, respectively.
The RedHawks dominated the time of possession and held significant advantages in the shots and shots on goal categories.
As a unit, the RedHawks fired 9-of-14 shots on net, while the Cougars were stifled and only managed four total shots throughout the first half, leaving Goalkeeper Caitlin Dumond (SO/Harker Heights, Texas) with spotless first 45-minutes of play.
Just six minutes into the second half, the RedHawks seized complete control of the match when Cabral notched her second goal of the evening, making the RedHawk lead a three goal margin.
Mackenzie Starcevich gave the Cougars a glimmer of hope with her goal just beyond the match's 61st minute.
Just 20 seconds later, however, the RedHawks would redeem themselves and add a fourth goal on a Cabral shot deflection off a defender for a St. Francis own goal.
The RedHawks will return to action Sunday evening for another match at Grissom Pitch. The RedHawks will square off against former TranSouth Athletic Conference rival Lyon (Ark.) College.
