Cabral Bags Four as RedHawks Best Tigers

PULASKI, Tenn. – The nation's top-ranked women's soccer squad used four goals from the nation's top goalscorer as the No. 1 Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team and junior forward Millene Cabral dispatched Campbellsville (Ky.) University, 4-0, Saturday night at Grissom Pitch.

Cabral scored two goals in the first and tacked on two more in the second to keep the RedHawks (10-0) atop the national rankings for what will be a third consecutive week.

For the contest, the RedHawks outshot the Tigers (2-8-1) by a 20-1 margin – and enjoyed a 13-0 edge in shots on target for the contest.

After several chances early in the first half, the RedHawks finally broke the scoring drought when Cabral was awarded and converted a 31st minute penalty kick. Cabral broke down the right side of the penalty area and an extra move past the Campbellsville goalkeeper ended up with a takedown and the penalty kick. Cabral converted from the spot with a shot into the lower left corner to put the home side ahead.

Cabral would extend the lead with a second goal just seven minutes later.

Senior defender Caroline Ladaga slipped past a Campbellsville defender on the left wing, worked her way into the box and slotted a pass across the frame of goal to a wide-open Cabral. Cabral smashed the shot home to put the RedHawks ahead by a pair and effectively put the game away.

Cabral would tack on two more goals in the second half to boost her national best goals scored to 24 and 25 on the season. The hat trick marked her fifth of the season.

Cabral would put the RedHawks ahead 3-0 with a finish after strong buildup from Riko Sagara and Katie Reid in the 71st minute.

Cabral closed her scoring run with an 80th finish after an assist from Miku Sunaga.

The contest marked the first meeting between the two clubs in over four seasons, dating back to a 3-0 RedHawk victory at Grissom Pitch in 2013.

Earlier in the week, the RedHawks checked in at No. 1 in both the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll and the NAIA's Modified Ratings Percentage Index.

The RedHawks return to action on Thursday, October 5 for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup versus Brewton-Parker (Ga.) College. The RedHawks will celebrate Senior Night as they honor the careers of Caroline Ladaga, Sabrina Gonzalez and Katie Reid.

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Grissom Pitch.
