PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 4 Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team notched a goal in both halves en route to a 2-0 victory over Georgetown (Ky.) College at Grissom Pitch Saturday afternoon.
The win marked a sixth straight for the RedHawks (6-0) and their third in as many tries at Grissom Pitch.
The RedHawks wasted little time before they found the scoresheet in the first half as sophomore midfielder Riko Sagara curled a shot into the back of the right side of the net.
Despite an 11-2 edge in shots in the first half, the RedHawks went into the break with just the one-goal lead.
Similar to the first half, however, the RedHawks would strike early in the second frame when freshman defender Lira Mathes linked to forward Millene Cabral, who provided the final touch through to Miku Sunaga for the match's second goal.
The RedHawks outshot the Tigers (3-2) in the second half by a 10-4 margin for a 21-6 edge for the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Dumond made three saves in net for the RedHawks to claim her third clean sheet of the season.
"We are delighted to get the win with no injuries after a very physical game tonight," RedHawks head coach Will Austin said. "I am proud of our team for battling hard, staying composed and continuing to get the ball down and play in difficult circumstances. Miku and Riko provided two quality goals for us when we needed them and we had a good defensive and goalkeeping performance tonight to earn the clean sheet. We are excited for our upcoming challenge against two of the better teams in the country next week at the Lindsey Wilson Classic."
The RedHawks will meet No. 20 Embry-Riddle (Az.) University in a Friday showdown with a matchup against No. 2 Spring Arbor (Mich.) University on Saturday.
