Box Score 2 PULASKI, Tenn. – The No. 7 Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team raced out to a pair of easy victories to begin Southern States Athletic Conference play last week.
The RedHawks (9-0-1, 2-0 SSAC) made quick work of Brewton-Parker (Ga.) in a 6-0 victory on Thursday before they dispatched Middle Georgia by a 3-0 margin on Saturday.
With the road victories, the RedHawks stretched their road unbeaten streak to 18 matches, dating back to a loss at William Carey (Miss.) on Oct. 3, 2015. The RedHawks now own a 16-0-2 mark in their last 18 road contests.
The wins kept the momentum rolling for the RedHawks, who will now meet No. 8 Cumberland (Tenn.) in a Top 10 NAIA showdown.
Kickoff in Wednesday's national clash is set for a rescheduled time of 1 p.m. in Lebanon, Tennessee.
Martin Methodist 6, Brewton-Parker 0:
The RedHawks opened their conference slate with a six-goal victory at Brewton-Parker (Ga.).
Senior forward Millene Cabral scored five of the six goals on the day for the RedHawks, with Natsuna Sugishita adding the other goal.
Miku Sunaga added three assists in the blowout win for the RedHawks, who improved to 7-0 all-time versus the Barons (5-2-1, 0-1 SSAC).
Martin Methodist 3, Middle Georgia State 0:
The RedHawks capped their week with a three-goal win at pesky Middle Georgia State.
The Knights (5-5-1, 1-1 SSAC) had upset a nearly-ranked Bethel (Tenn.) squad on Thursday, and held the RedHawks to just a 1-0 margin at halftime.
A lightning delay stopped progress in the first half for over half an hour and disrupted the offensive flow of the RedHawks.
But two goals in the second half allowed the RedHawks to pull ahead for the three-goal victory.
The RedHawks utilized three different goalscorers in the win, with Millene Cabral, Natsuna Sugishita and Mackenzie Stroebel all added goals.
Lily Fisk added her first career assist, with Suzuho Yamasaki adding the helper on the second goal and Sugishita's deflected shot serving as the assist that Stroebel needed for her finish.
