Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – After 70-plus scoreless minutes, the No. 6 Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team finally unlocked the defense of South Carolina-Beaufort for a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Grissom Pitch.
Despite a massive advantage in possession and shots, the RedHawks (5-0) were unable to sneak a goal past a Sand Shark (3-2) side that elected to defend with all 11 players for virtually the entirety of the match.
After a 21-0 edge in shots at halftime, the RedHawks continued to dominate in the second half, but had nothing to show for it with the end of the frame in sight.
However, in the 75th minute, Suzuho Yamasaki broke free down the left wing and delivered a cross into the box. That is when Millene Cabral made a run onto the ball and was able to guide it into the back of the net for the opening goal.
Despite the lead, the RedHawks continued to dominate possession and only allowed a brief stint of Sand Shark possession in the game's final minute.
The RedHawks with a whopping 33-0 edge in shots for the contest – 13 of which were on goal.
With the victory, the RedHawks notched their fifth-straight win to start the season – all of which have been played at Grissom Pitch.
The RedHawks will play one final match in their six-match homestand – a showdown versus No. 22 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
Kickoff is set for next Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m.
