Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – In its second home contest of the season, the No. 4 Martin Methodist Women's Soccer team overcame an early scare to eventually cruise to a 4-1 victory versus USC-Beaufort Tuesday afternoon at Grissom Pitch.
The RedHawks (4-1-1) opened the scoring just 72 seconds into the contest when Adisa Amang slipped behind a would-be defender and tapped it home for the game's opening goal.
On a blistering hot day, the RedHawks conceded an equalizer just seven minutes later as the Sand Sharks (4-2) snuck for their lone goal of the day.
The game would not remain deadlocked for very long, however, as Amang bagged her second goal of the afternoon in the 13th minute.
The RedHawks added a final first-half goal in the 27th minute when Natsuna Sugishita bagged a left-footed finish. The goal came after a nice run-up from Amang, who played Yuki Watari for the final delivery ahead of Sugishita's goal.
Ahead by two goals at the break, the RedHawks began to dip into their reserves as the second half began, replacing four first-half starters.
Mackenzie Stroebel was one of the reserves that made an immediate impact, notching a goal just eight minutes into the second half.
With the elements at play, the RedHawks continued to rotate players on and off Grissom Pitch en route to the three-goal victory.
Backup goalkeeper Taylor Heredia made her second appearance of the season in the second half, stopping three attempts late in the ballgame to preserve the three-goal win.
The win was a much-needed boost for the RedHawks, who drew No. 14 John Brown (Ark.) last Thursday and suffered a 2-1 defeat versus No. 10 Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Saturday.
The RedHawks continue their strong opponents on the schedule when they travel to No. 6 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) this Saturday.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Columbia, Kentucky.
