Box Score METAIRIE, La. – The #7 University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team connected with five goals to defeat Xavier (La.) 5-1 on Thursday.
UT Southern (2-0) got on the board first in the 30th minute when Maclani Michael connected on the Miran Sakai pass. The Firehawks would score less than six minutes later to jump to a 2-nil lead. The second goal was scored by Hikaru Uchida on the helper from Sharaid Palmeros-Solis. Xavier (0-1) would sneak one past Firehawk keeper Layken Stockstill to draw to within one. The score would hold at 2-1 at the break. UT Southern led in shots 9-7 in the opening stanza.
In the second half, the Firehawks would pile on three more shots into the net. Uchida recorded her second two-pointer of the game in the 64th minute that was setup by Michael's lag. Michael would net her second goal of the match in the 70th minute giving Sakai a pair of assists. Palmeros-Solis (assist Morgen Sharp) would cap the win off with the Firehawks fifth goal in the 82nd minute. The Firehawks would hold a 17-12 shot advantage and 14-9 shots on goal difference.
Stockstill (2-0) was credited with the win. She allowed one goal and recorded six saves in 67 minutes between the sticks. Petra Brncova closed out the final 24 minutes recording a pair of saves.
