COLUMBIA, Ky. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team put together a hard-fought effort Thursday night but came up short against fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson, falling 3-1.
The match opened with a disciplined defensive approach from the Firehawks, who kept pace with the nationally ranked Blue Raiders through a scoreless first half. Tennessee Southern's back line absorbed sustained pressure, holding Lindsey Wilson to seven first-half shots without allowing a goal. Goalkeeper Louis Hester remained alert between the posts, while defenders Riley Barratt and Benjamin Chretien helped limit quality chances inside the box.
Offensively, the Firehawks created a pair of opportunities before halftime, including efforts from Mak Binder and Filippo Fregoli that tested the Lindsey Wilson defense. Despite the limited chances, Tennessee Southern maintained composure and stayed organized heading into the second period tied at 0-0.
Lindsey Wilson found its rhythm after the break, breaking through midway through the half with two quick goals to seize control. Tennessee Southern responded with resilience, pressing forward and eventually finding the net in the 81st minute when George Grice capitalized on a feed from Binder. The goal marked Grice's sixth of the season and provided a brief spark for the Firehawks' attack. Lindsey Wilson added a late insurance goal to close out the scoring.
Hester recorded three saves on the night while facing a barrage of 21 shots from the Blue Raiders. Tennessee Southern finished with three shots, including one on target, and continued to show determination despite the result.
