Lewis, Tayebi Lead Firehawks Past Mobile

UT Southern Outshoots Rams 29-3 in Another Strong Conference Showing

PULASKI, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team continued its strong run through Southern States Athletic Conference play Thursday night, defeating the University of Mobile 2-0 at Grissom Pitch.

The victory improved the Firehawks to 10-1-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in SSAC play while extending their unbeaten streak to 10 matches.

UT Southern controlled the pace throughout the evening, limiting Mobile to just three shots while generating 29 attempts of its own. Despite several early chances, the Firehawks broke through in the 21st minute when Ashanti Lewis found the back of the net off an assist from Kamilia Tayebi to give UT Southern a 1-0 lead.

The Firehawks continued to apply pressure for the remainder of the first half, creating several dangerous opportunities and earning a penalty kick late in the period, but carried a one-goal advantage into the break.

The Firehawks maintained control throughout the second half, keeping the Rams pinned in their own end. The evening briefly took an unusual turn early in the second half when a buck wandered onto the field, resulting in an approximately five-minute delay while game personnel safely cleared the animal from the playing surface. Once play resumed, UT Southern continued to dictate the action and created a number of quality scoring opportunities through Luella Cramer, Riho Masuya, Millie Rayner, and Ashanti Lewis.

Mobile's goalkeeper kept the visitors within striking distance for much of the half, turning away several dangerous attempts and helping the Rams stay within one goal.

Lewis and Tayebi each recorded a goal in the victory, while Tayebi and Masuya added assists. Lewis led the Firehawks with seven shots, while Cramer and Masuya contributed five shots apiece.

Defensively, UT Southern was outstanding once again. The Firehawks held Mobile without a shot on goal and allowed just three total shots for the match. Sam De Gier and McKenzie Raine combined for the shutout as UT Southern collected another clean sheet.

UT Southern finished with significant advantages in shots (29-3), shots on goal (10-0), and corner kicks (7-1) in one of their most complete performances of the season.
