SAVANNAH, Ga. – The UT Southern Clay Target Team turned in a strong showing over the weekend at the Spring Lower East Coast Conference Championship, placing fifth overall out of 25 teams in Savannah. The fifth-place finish came in the High Overall (HOA) standings, which combine results from all shooting disciplines, with all four teams finishing ahead of the Firehawks competing at the Division I level. The result highlights UT Southern's depth and competitiveness against one of the strongest fields of the season.
UT Southern showed notable improvement in Sporting Clays, led by Jackson Williams, who posted an 86 out of 100. Ben Yarbrough followed closely with an 85, while Haley Starmer added an 84. Nathan Myers recorded an 82, and Ellie Huddleston rounded out the group with an 80, marking a solid team effort in the discipline.
Individually, the Firehawks delivered several standout performances. Myers turned in a perfect score of 100 out of 100 in American Skeet, earning a fourth-place finish in the men's division after a shoot-off involving three other athletes who also posted perfect scores.
On the women's side, Mercie Ashmore claimed High Overall honors in Doubles Skeet with a score of 48 out of 50 and added a third-place finish in American Trap with a 93 out of 100. Huddleston captured High Overall honors in women's American Trap with an impressive 96 out of 100 and went on to win a shoot-off to finish second in Doubles Trap with a score of 41 out of 50.
UT Southern also placed three athletes inside the top 10 of the women's combined High Overall standings across all disciplines. Ashmore finished fourth overall, Huddleston placed sixth, and Starmer rounded out the group in ninth, underscoring the Firehawks' strong presence throughout the field.
The Firehawks will next compete at the ACUI National Championship, set for San Antonio, Texas.
