Jake Alexander enters his first season as Head Swimming Coach at the University of Tennessee Southern, bringing more than 15 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of developing swimmers and growing successful programs.
Alexander joined UT Southern following the 2025-26 season at Oakland City University, where he was named the inaugural head coach of the Mighty Oaks men's and women's swimming programs. He was tasked with building the program from the ground up, overseeing all aspects of recruiting, athlete development, and program operations.
Prior to his collegiate coaching experience, Alexander spent eight years as head coach of the Wabash Valley Swim Team in Vincennes, Indiana. During his tenure, he guided the program through significant growth, increasing participation from approximately 20 swimmers to more than 50 athletes. His leadership helped establish a culture centered on skill development, competitive success, and long-term athlete growth.
Before taking over as head coach of Wabash Valley, Alexander served as an assistant coach with an age-group swim program in Huntingburg, Indiana, as well as with the Vincennes Swim Team. Throughout his coaching career, he has worked with swimmers across a wide range of ages and competitive levels, earning a reputation for technical instruction, athlete mentorship, and program development.
A native of southern Indiana, Alexander began his competitive swimming career at Southridge High School, where he was a member of four consecutive Pocket Athletic Conference championship teams. As a senior, he captured the conference championship in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Following high school, Alexander continued his swimming career at Vincennes University, where he qualified for the NJCAA National Championships during both seasons with the Trailblazers.
