Braxton Morris was named head baseball coach at the University of Tennessee Southern on August 13, 2025, bringing with him a rare combination of multi-sport collegiate coaching experience, record-breaking program success, and professional playing credentials.
Morris joins the Firehawks after serving as Assistant Coach and Director of Operations at NCAA Division I High Point University (2024–25), where he worked with the infielders, assisted with the hitters, and oversaw day-to-day operations. During his tenure, HPU enjoyed a record-breaking season—setting a new program mark for wins and ranking among the nation’s top offenses. The Panthers finished as a top 5 offense in NCAA Division I, ranking No. 1 nationally in hits, runs, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage, No. 2 in home runs and doubles, and No. 4 in batting average.
Prior to High Point, Morris was the Director of Player Development at the University of South Carolina-Upstate (2023–24), helping the Spartans tie their program record for wins and finish as a top 30 NCAA Division I offense. That season, USC Upstate set program records for hits, home runs, doubles, and RBIs, and a program-best nine players earned All-Conference honors.
In addition to his baseball success, Morris has extensive coaching experience in football and basketball. He spent three seasons in collegiate football as a defensive analyst under Billy Napier at the University of Florida (2022) and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (2020–21), working primarily with defensive backs. While at Louisiana, the Ragin’ Cajuns claimed back-to-back Sun Belt Conference championships, posted a 23-2 record over two seasons, and ended the 2021 campaign ranked No. 15 nationally after winning 13 consecutive games.
Before his football tenure, Morris began his collegiate coaching career in basketball as an assistant men’s coach at Daytona State College, helping the Falcons to a 25-7 record—their highest win total in 18 years—and an NJCAA Region 8 Mid-Florida Conference Championship.
As a player, Morris was a standout at Morehead State University, batting .333 over his career and helping lead the Eagles to two Ohio Valley Conference Tournament titles and NCAA Regional appearances in Louisville (2015) and Clemson (2018). He went on to play one season of professional baseball with the Washington Wild Things and Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, winning a United Shore Professional Baseball League championship in 2018. Morris also spent two seasons overseas playing football, leading his team to a No. 1 national ranking and a conference championship.
A native of Albertville, Alabama, Morris was a multi-sport athlete in high school and holds a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Morehead State University.
