Dr. Chris Mattingly enters his ninth season as Faculty Athletic Representative at the University of Tennessee Southern in 2026–27, serving as a key connection between the institution’s academic and athletic programs. In this role, he helps ensure the success and integrity of the student-athlete experience.

In addition to his work with the Athletic Department, Dr. Mattingly holds several important roles on campus, including Registrar, Director of Institutional Research, Assistant Professor, and Program Coordinator for the Mathematics Department.

A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Dr. Mattingly earned his undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Finance, and Mathematical Economics from the University of Kentucky in 2006. He went on to complete both his Master’s degree in 2008 and his Doctorate in 2012, also from the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Mattingly joined the UT Southern community in 2012, when the institution was known as Martin Methodist College, as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Since then, he has made a lasting impact across campus, serving in a variety of roles including Resident Director of the campus apartments, leading institutional research initiatives, and overseeing academic records as Registrar.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Mattingly enjoys spending time playing video games and is an avid Pokémon fan, still chasing his childhood goal of becoming a Pokémon Master.
