Dr. Chris Mattingly enters his eighth season as the Faculty Athletic Representative at UT Southern in 2025–26, serving as a vital link between academics and athletics. In addition to his work with the Athletic Department, Dr. Mattingly currently holds multiple roles on campus, including Registrar, Director of Institutional Research, Assistant Professor, and Program Coordinator for the Mathematics Department.
A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Dr. Mattingly earned his undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Finance, and Mathematical Economics from the University of Kentucky in 2006. He went on to complete his Master’s degree in 2008 and his Doctorate in 2012, also from the University of Kentucky.
Dr. Mattingly joined the UT Southern (formerly Martin Methodist College) community in 2012 as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. Over the years, he has contributed to campus life in numerous capacities, including serving as Resident Director of the campus apartments, leading institutional research efforts, and overseeing academic records as Registrar.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Mattingly enjoys relaxing with video games and is an avid Pokémon fan—aspiring one day to achieve his childhood dream of becoming a Pokémon Master.
