Johanna DeGuzman joins the University of Tennessee Southern flag football program as an assistant coachin 2026-27, bringing more than 14 years of competitive playing experience and an extensive coaching background at the youth and high school levels.
A highly accomplished athlete, DeGuzman has competed at the highest levels of flag football, earning multiple championships throughout her career and establishing herself as a respected leader in the sport. She is a two-time member of the Philippines National Flag Football Team, where she served as Defensive Captain, gaining valuable international experience while helping lead her team on the global stage. Her playing career has been defined by discipline, strategic excellence, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous development.
In addition to her success as a player, DeGuzman has built an impressive coaching résumé. She served as Assistant Head Coach at Smyrna High School during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, helping develop one of Tennessee's emerging flag football programs. She also serves as Defensive Coordinator for the Tennessee Vultures Boys 7v7 program, where she specializes in defensive strategy, player development, and leadership training. DeGuzman has further demonstrated her passion for mentoring young athletes as Head Coach of the Watch This Youth Flag Football Travel Team, guiding players in skill development, confidence building, and competitive preparation.
DeGuzman earned her degree from the University of Maryland in 2016 and later completed a second degree at Southern New Hampshire University in 2020.
With a unique combination of championship-caliber playing experience, international competition, defensive expertise, and a dedication to athlete development, DeGuzman brings invaluable knowledge and energy to the UT Southern flag football program. She is committed to helping student-athletes reach their full potential on the field, in the classroom, and in their communities.
