Men's Soccer: Three TranSouth All-Conference Nods for the RedHawks

BATESVILLE, Ark. (11/12) -- The TranSouth Men's Soccer All-Conference team was announced Friday and the undefeated, regular-season conference-champion Bethel University led the way with six players on the squad, while the RedHawks earned three spots.

Defender Joe Beecroft (Junior/Ipswich, England) was one of two first team selections, marking the second of his MMC career. Beecroft started 10 of 11 appearances this season, scoring one goal and earning one assist. Beecroft was part of a defense that helped the RedHawks to an 8-5-2 record this season.

Goalkeeper James Colman (Senior/Kent, England) caps a phenomenal four-year career with a first team selection, his first. This season, Colman was named as TSAC Defensive Player of the Week, and went on to be named as the NAIA Player of the Week for that performance. In 1,335 minutes, Colman has allowed just 14 goals, and has made 62 saves on the season.

Forward Andy Gordon (Senior/Shelbyville, Tenn.) returns to the All-Conference second team for the second season, scoring five goals with one assist this year. Gordon tied for first for MMC with three game-winners this season as an everyday starter.

Eight RedHawks earned honors as TSAC Scholar Athletes, including Beecroft, Colman, Martin Campbell (Sophomore/Airdrie, Scotland), Robbie Coffey (Junior/Dublin, Ireland), Uziel Hernandez (Junior/Veracruz, Mexico), Ray Robertson (Junior/Kent, England), Gustavo Vaz (Junior/Belo Horizonte, Brazil), and Chris McBride (Senior/Prestwick, Scotland).

The TranSouth Conference Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year awards will be announced following the finals of the 2010 TranSouth Conference Men's Soccer Championship, featuring MMC and Bethel University.

The contest represents a re-match of last year's conference final in which the RedHawks stunned Bethel University with a 2-1 win to take the league title. MMC, the sixth seed this season, has climbed up the ranks at this year's tournament, and has a shot to again defeat the one seed, Bethel. During the regular season, the Wildcats blanked MMC on senior night, 2-0, and the RedHawks will look for redepmtion, and a shot at the NAIA tournament in this afternoon's competition. The match is scheduled for 2pm at Bethel University.
