HENDERSON, Tenn. (11/8) - Outside hitters Paula Sioto (Freshman/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Ann-Katherin Kuehorn (Junior/Bamberg, Germany) have been constant leaders on the court for MMC all season long, and were recognized for their efforts during the opening day of the TranSouth Conference Championships.
Sioto, who was named Freshman of the Year, averaged 3.31 kills per set this season, hitting .319 on 444 kills to date. Her 34 service aces and 51 total blocks ranked her second on the team on each category, while she has tallied 162 digs so far. The freshman has had 24 matches in double-digit kills, and notched six double-doubles this season. Her efforts also earned her a place on the All-Conference First Team.
Kuehorn's 2010 performance led her to an All-Conference First Team selection, as she led the RedHawks in three categories, including kills (486), aces (50), and digs (245). She averaged a team-high 3.47 kills per set, hitting .308, third best on the team. Kuehorn tallied a team-high 11 double-doubles, reaching double-digit kills in every match but eight. In addition to earning conference honors, Kuehorn was named as a TranSouth Scholar Athlete for her performance in the classroom this year.
Kuehorn and Sioto will look to lead the RedHawks as they enter the second day of the TranSouth Conference Championships with a 1-1 record and elimination on the line.
