Men's Soccer: RedHawks Suffer Setback at Tennessee-Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. – Playing a tough non-conference matchup, Martin Methodist was held scoreless for the first time this season in a 3-0 loss to Tennessee-Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

After Luke Winter's goal at the 33:26 mark, the RedHawks found themselves trailing for the first time since a Sept. 11 win over Cumberland University.

The goal also snapped a 447:08 scoreless streak from RedHawks goalkeeper Stephen Lunney, who gave up multiple goals for the first time since a 3-2 loss to Lee University on Sept. 1

From there, the RedHawks would surrender two more over the match's final 45 minutes to finish on the wrong end of the 3-0 result.

Amaury Barritault led the RedHawks offensive charge, firing the two lone MMC shots on goal.

As a team, the RedHawks (7-2 overall) were outshot 16-8 and were at a 5-4 corner kick disadvantage.

"We just weren't at the races today," RedHawks head coach Gerry Cleary said. "We had too many players that didn't show up ready to play."

The RedHawks return to action Wednesday with another tough non-conference matchup against No. 22 Bryan College. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the East Campus Soccer Complex.
