Volleyball: RedHawks Fall in Five Sets to Roadrunners

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist held a one-set advantage on two occasions, but was unable to hang on in a 3-2 loss to Dalton State (Ga.) College Friday night in the Curry Christian Life Center.

After taking the first set 25-19, the RedHawks (4-9, 3-5 SSAC) appeared as if they might pick up a victory in the second and cruise to an easy victory. That would not be the case, however, as they saw their lead vanish with a 25-21 defeat in the second frame.

The RedHawks would again take a one-set lead after picking up a 25-18 victory in the third set to take a decisive 2-1 advantage. The lead would again evaporate as the Roadrunners claimed a 25-17 win in the fourth.

Knotted at two sets apiece, the two sides would go back-and-forth in a highly entertaining fifth set before the Roadrunners (8-6, 4-4 SSAC) were able to scratch out a 17-15 victory and claim the match.

`Rosmerli Carrillo (13), Genesis Mejias (11) and Gloria Watson (10) all finished with double-digit kills for the RedHawks, who recorded 47 as a team on 130 total attempts for a 16.2 attacking percentage.

The Roadrunners, meanwhile, were able claim 57 total kills – 16 of which came from Kianna Delaney – on their 134 attempts for a 22.4 percentage that ultimately proved the difference.

The loss marked a third consecutive defeat for the RedHawks and their second straight conference loss.

The RedHawks will look to return to the win column Saturday afternoon when they host Brenau (Ga.) University. First serve in Saturday's showdown is set for 2 p.m. in the Curry Christian Life Center.
