PULASKI, Tenn. – Despite a third-set rally, the Martin Methodist Volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to league-leading University of Mobile (Ala.) Friday night in the Curry Christian Life Center.
After they dropped the first two sets in quick fashion, the RedHawks (17-8, 8-4 SSAC) appeared as if they might be in store for an early exit in front of their home faithful.
But the RedHawks rallied in the third set as they erased an early deficit and wiggled their way to an eventual 25-22 set victory.
In the fourth set, the RedHawks fell behind early yet again, but forced the Rams (30-3, 12-0) to take their first timeout of the contest in the late stages of the frame. But this time, the 25-22 score favored the visitors as the RedHawks suffered the hard-luck defeat.
Sabrie Sirmones led the RedHawks with 16 kills on a night where the team combined for a collective .125 attack percentage. Jade Paris finished with six kills and three others added four in the loss.
Defensively, the duo of Belen Albertos Acensio (15) and Sydney Arnold (12) combined for over half of the team's 54 digs on the night.
Paris stole the show on the defensive end, however, as the senior collected a career-best 10 block assists on the night.
After the contest, the RedHawks celebrated the career of one of their program veterans as junior varsity member Ashley Mangrum was honored in a ceremony at center court for Senior Night.
The RedHawk varsity squad will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they host Faulkner (Ala.) University. The RedHawks won a five-set thriller when the two teams met in Montgomery, Alabama earlier this season.
First serve in tomorrow's match is set for 2 p.m. in the Curry Christian Life Center.
