Box Score 2 PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Men's Soccer team scored three goals in the first half and added an insurance tally in the second for a 4-1 victory over Middle Georgia State University Saturday afternoon at Grissom Pitch.
In a chippy contest, the RedHawks (9-2, 2-0 SSAC) were able to break for the game's first goal in the 11th minute. Mario Lopez claimed the opening goal for the RedHawks with a shot that deflected off an opposing defender and into the back of the net.
Just 10 minutes later, Jonas Arcalean found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season that put the RedHawks ahead, 2-0.
The home side capped the first half scoring with a 33rd minute tally from Juan Yepes.
The second half saw the RedHawks maintain the edge in both possession and shots and ended with a goal from defender Daniel Weinhandl in the 53rd minute.
With the contest firmly in hand, the RedHawks began to rotate players into the lineup as seven reserves saw time in the second half.
The win lifted the RedHawks to a 2-0 start in SSAC play for the second time in as many seasons. The RedHawks raced to a 3-0 start a year ago in league play. The win also kept the RedHawks perfect at home this season with a 6-0 record at Grissom Pitch.
The RedHawks return to action next Thursday, Oct. 12, when they travel to face Faulkner (Ala.) University.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Montgomery, Alabama.
