PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Volleyball team played two tight early sets and then cruised in the third to a 3-0 victory over rival Bethel (Tenn.) University Thursday night in the Curry Christian Life Center.
The win was a much-needed one for the RedHawks (18-9, 9-5 SSAC), who snapped a four-match losing streak in their final conference match of the regular season.
The contest was a tight one for the first two sets, as the RedHawks rallied to a 25-21 victory in the first and a hard-fought 26-24 win in the second. The third set proved to be a one-sided affair as the RedHawks earned the 25-14 win and clinched the victory.
Senior libero Belen Albertos Asencsio stole the show for the RedHawks as she collected 27 digs and surpassed 1,000 career digs. The senior entered the night with 978 digs and achieved the feat in the third and final frame. The achievement is a special one for the senior, who transitioned to the libero position this offseason and has posted 485 digs to date this season.
Sabrie Sirmones led the RedHawks with 13 kills while Lauren Martin added nine.
Sydney Arnold posted 34 assists on the night and Jade Paris accounted for four of the team's 10 block assists.
The RedHawks return to action this weekend with a pair of matches at Mississippi University for Women. The RedHawks will play the host school at Noon and follow up with a match versus Judson (Ala.) College at 2 p.m.
