RedHawks Fall in SSAC Quarterfinals

Box Score

PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Men's Soccer team saw its season come to an end Saturday in a 2-0 loss to University of Mobile (Ala.) in the quarterfinals of the 2018 SSAC Men's Soccer Championship.

On a day where Grissom Pitch's conditions deteriorated as the match went on, the RedHawks (10-8) had a few chances in the first half, but could not convert. Miguel Tizapa missed an early point-blank chance and Marcus Stein's indirect free kick from inside the penalty box rattled off the crossbar.

The missed chances would come back to haunt the RedHawks, as the Rams (14-4) struck for a pair of goals in the second half.

Playing into the wind, the RedHawks never had another major scoring opportunity in the second half.

The loss ends the year for the RedHawks, who defeated three ranked opponents at Grissom Pitch, including previously third-ranked Mobile, 3-0, back on Oct. 13.

Jonas Arcalean finished the year as the RedHawks leading goalscorers with 12 of the team's 39 goals on the season. Tizapa led the RedHawks with 11 assists and added six goals himself. Alex Kleczkowski added eight goals and seven assists this season for the RedHawks.

The RedHawks say farewell to four seniors: Marcus Stein, Lewis Hallett, Guilherme Calache and David Jaimes.
