Box Score 3 MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a rematch of last year's SSAC conference tournament championship match, the Martin Methodist Volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory versus Faulkner (Ala.) Saturday afternoon at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
The win snapped a four-match losing streak to Faulkner for the RedHawks (5-4, 1-0 SSAC) and marked the first away victory versus Faulkner since 2017. The contest was voted as the SSAC's Game of the Week.
In a match that was tight throughout, the RedHawks held on for 25-23 victories in the first two sets and claimed a 25-19 decision in the third to claim the contest.
Sophomore Kara Nelms led the RedHawk attack with 13 kills, setting a new season high and finishing one kill shy of her career high set last season. Nelms hit .229 on the afternoon, while the RedHawks hit .203 (46-of-148) as a team.
Lauren Martin and Rebecka Cronin finished behind Nelms with nine kills each.
Sydney Arnold, the reigning SSAC Setter of the Week, finished the contest with 34 assists and 12 digs for another double-double – her fourth of the season.
Defensively, Arnold was one of four RedHawks to finish with double-digit digs. Reigning SSAC Defender of the Week Hayley Brisendine led the defense with 26 digs. Cronin and Summer Jackson added 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
The win kicked off conference play for the RedHawks, who return to SSAC action next weekend when they travel to William Carey (Miss.).
The RedHawks will tune up for Saturday's conference clash with a Thursday showdown versus Bryan (Tenn.). First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. in the CLC.
