Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. – For the second time in 10 days, the Martin Methodist Men's Soccer team packed its bags for a road match in the greater Atlanta area. And for the second time in 10 days, Martin Methodist came away with a victory as the squad defeated Life (Ga.), 4-2, Saturday afternoon.
The win was the third road victory this season for the RedHawks (7-2) and a measure of revenge as the RedHawks suffered a 2-0 home loss to the Running Eagles (3-3) in Pulaski a year ago.
Jonas Arcalean was the offensive hero for the RedHawks on Saturday, scoring two goals in the match's opening 30 minutes and adding a crucial insurance goal in the 80th minute. The hat trick marked the third of Arcalean's career. The junior nearly had another hat trick earlier this season, but a third goal versus Marian (Ind.) was ruled an own goal.
Through Saturday night's contests, Arcalean's 12 goals ranked second in the nation, just one behind Georgetown (Ky.) forward Luca Zellmann.
Nawn Thang added the other goal on the day for the RedHawks, who built a 3-0 lead at halftime. The second half saw the home squad make the contest close as they notched goals in the 68th and 76th minutes to pull within a goal of tying the contest.
For the match, the RedHawks outshot the Running Eagles by a 19-11 margin, with nearly half (8) of the RedHawk shots on target.
Joshua Precious allowed two goals, but made one save in net for the RedHawks in his second-straight start and victory in goal.
The contest was a preview of things to come for the next few seasons, as the RedHawks and Running Eagles will meet in 2020 as members of the Mid-South Conference.
The RedHawks will meet another Mid-South opponent in their next fixture when they travel to Cumberland (Tenn.) on Sept. 24.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Lebanon, Tennessee.
