RedHawks Nab Road Win at William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – For the second time in a week, the Martin Methodist Volleyball team went on the road and dropped an SSAC opponent as it defeated William Carey (Miss.) Saturday afternoon, 3-1.

The RedHawks (7-4, 2-0 SSAC) have now won six straight contests since starting the year on a 1-4 note. The RedHawks are undefeated in the month of September after they rallied for a five-set win versus Bryan (Tenn.) on Thursday prior to Saturday's showdown versus the Crusaders (8-10, 1-3).

The RedHawks scored 25 points in all four sets, only dropping the third set by a narrow 27-25 margin.

As a team, the RedHawks racked up nine service aces and registered 52 kills as a team.

Rebecka Cronin capped a strong week with a 15-kill night on 46 attempts. She added seven digs defensively and four block attempts.

Lauren Martin added 11 kills on the night for the RedHawks, who hit 52-of-151 (.232) as a club.

Sydney Arnold had a big night for the RedHawks with 44 of the club's 46 assists. William Carey had 40 assists as a team. Arnold also added 10 digs for her sixth double-double of the year.

Hayley Brisendine led the RedHawks with 21 digs, with Arnold and Kara Nelms adding 10 each.

The win lifted the RedHawks to their sixth straight win and their seventh victory versus the Crusaders in eight all-time meetings.

Martin Methodist returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Georgetown, Kentucky for a showdown versus Georgetown College.

First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. CT.
