Box Score 3 PULASKI, Tenn. – The Martin Methodist Volleyball team picked up a pair of conference wins over the weekend to remain atop the SSAC standings.
On Friday, Martin Methodist racked up a 3-1 win versus Bethel (Tenn.) in a matchup of the SSAC's last unbeaten squads. And on Saturday, Martin Methodist downed first-year program Blue Mountain (Miss.) by a 3-0 margin.
The RedHawks (9-5, 4-0 SSAC) dropped their first set in Friday's match versus Bethel, but rallied and eventually pulled away in the 3-1 victory. Saturday's showdown marked the first-ever matchup between the RedHawks and Blue Mountain, and the home team rattled off three straight sets to secure the sweep.
Lauren Martin shined on the weekend for the RedHawks with 26 kills across two matches. Fellow attacker Chandler Salvig bagged 14 kills in Friday's win and added eight more on Saturday. The sophomore also posted eight blocks in Friday's win.
Sydney Arnold posted 30-plus assists in both contests, racking up 70 total helpers in the two matches. Arnold posted double-doubles in both contests, with 11 digs in Friday's matchup and 12 in Saturday's contest. Arnold also posted six blocks – five of which came in the win versus Bethel.
Defensively, Hayley Brisendine posted 45 digs in the two contests, but Friday's matchup saw three other RedHawks post double-digit dig nights. Arnold, Rebecka Cronin and Summer Jackson all posted 11 digs in the complete defensive effort.
The wins erased a midweek defeat for the RedHawks, who dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision at Georgetown (Ky.). Martin Methodist was riding a six-match win streak prior to the defeat. The wins this weekend pushed the squad's record to 6-0 at home, however.
Martin Methodist returns to action next Tuesday when they travel to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Henderson, Tennessee.
