RedHawks Rout Oakwood on Road

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Martin Methodist Women's Basketball team never trailed and cruised en route to a 77-40 victory versus Oakwood (Ala.) Saturday night.

The win was much-needed for the RedHawks (13-7), who suffered consecutive SSAC conference defeats in their last two outings.

The RedHawks were slow to start, leading just 14-10 after the first quarter, but quickly built a 37-18 lead at halftime. The RedHawks held the Ambassadors (2-12) to just 22 second-half points in the runaway victory.

Faith Sherrow led the RedHawks in the scoring column, with 22 points. The sophomore connected on 5-of-10 shots from downtown. As a team, the RedHawks went 8-of-19 from distance.

Brooklyn Blanchard had a complete ballgame in the win, nearly notching a triple-double. Blanchard scored 17 points, handed out nine assists and notched eight rebounds.

Caylee McLennan posted a career scoring effort as she notched 13 points on 5-of-10 shots from the floor. McLennan connected on three 3-pointers in the career night.

The RedHawks pounded the Ambassadors on the boards, out rebounding the home team by a 44-31 margin.

Lacey Reed led the RedHawks with eight rebounds, flanked by Blanchard's eight boards.

With the win, the RedHawks improved to 17-0 all-time versus the Ambassadors, dating back to 2006.
