Box Score Pulaski, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee men's soccer team defeated the University of Pikeville 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Firehawks fired in five first half goals. Mario Lopez got UTS on the board in the 16th minute from the Josh Posuniack pass. In the 23rd minute Manuel Morales found the net from the Tiago Lopes assist. Alejandro Blanco scored his first of two in the game from the boot of Lopez. Kenshin Yasushima connected with a beautiful header on a Carlos Galan pass in the 30th minute. Pietari Vanska hammered a shot home from the assists of Manuel Otero and Galan. The Firehawks led in first half shots 14-0.
The second half was more of the dominating defensive performance of the Firehawks. Blanco completed his brace in the 51st minute from the Otero pass. UTS blitzed UPike 29-1 in shots.
Ajay Murray, Yan Rosado and Michael Anderson shared the clean sheet, and Anderson had the lone save.
Coach Brian Davies was complimentary of the teams dominate defensive effort, "I thought we put in a dominate performance tonight. We scored some great goals and defended well. It;s a great opening round win and looking forward to moving on to Bethel in the quarterfinals."
