Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – MMC men's soccer played their way to a draw with 8th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College, 1-1, after picking up two Mid-South Conference wins on the road. The RedHawks are 3-5-1, 3-4-1 in MSC play, heading into another full week.
"With 17 new players on the roster and starting our first three games on the road, I knew that we would face some adversity," said head coach Chris Leonardi. "Since those three games, the guys have responded well and are now forming their new identity. They are learning everyday what it takes to compete in the Mid-South Conference. I am looking forward to see what's ahead of us for the remainder of the season."
Freshman goalkeeper Adam Persson (FR/Gideonsburg, Sweden) made 11 saves against LWC, with three of those saves coming in both overtime periods to secure the tie.
The RedHawks put Lindsey Wilson under pressure early in the match with a few scoring chances before Miguel Tizapa (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) finished an effort off a corner kick to open a 1-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson tried to rally for the remainder of the half but could not score and found themselves behind 1-0 at the half.
The Blue Raiders score came when Vitor de Lima saw his attempt get deflected by a RedHawks defender into his own net for the equalizer in the 49th minute, just four minutes into the second half.
Both sides tried desperately to find the winning goal for the remainder of the second half but the match was forced into overtime. Again, to no avail could either team find the back of the net, resulting in the 1-1 tie.
Tizapa's goal was his second of the week, as he scored one against Thomas More University earlier in the week. Adding to the MMC goal tally, Mario Lopez (SR/El Masnou, Spain) scored both in the 2-0 win over Georgetown College.
The RedHawks return to action Tuesday, March 23rd at home against Campbellsville University.
