Box Score Pulaski, Tenn. - UTS men's soccer defeated NCAA DIII opponent Asbury University 5-1 Thursday afternoon.
The Firehawks (4-5) scored two first half goals. Tiago Lopes connected on two consecutive headers, assists by Carlos Galan and Manuel Otero, to fuel the Firehawks to a 2-1 lead at the half. UTS outshoot the Eagles 10-2 at the half.
Three second half goals were added late by Mario Lopez and Pietari Vanska. Lopez would connect on a PK in the 86th minute. Vanska would score in the 88th minute and the 90th minute with the helper from Lopes.The Firehawks would outshoot the Eagles 16-4.
Goalkeeper AJ Murray was credited with the shutout compiling 2 saves on 3 shots on goal.
Coach Brian Davies commented on the win, "Asbury made it difficult for us tonight. We had to earn everything we got, so credit them for playing hard. At the end of the day, it came down to how many chances we created and goals we that resulted from those chances. The score might not tell the whole story tonight. We had two goals disallowed and missed a couple easy looks. So a good win tonight and we will rest up for Bethel Saturday!"
