Avrit and Ortega Both Record Double-Doubles, Firehawks Dearm Crusaders

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team stunned the home crowd handing William Carey a 3-2 loss on Friday.

UT Southern (8-5, 1-1) fell behind dropping the first two sets to the Crusaders. The Firehawks caught their second wind and stayed alive taking set three 26-24. William Carey (4-12, 1-2) couldn't close out the Firehawks in the fourth set. In a tight knit final set, UT Southern built a late lead and disappointed the Crusader fathful.

Morgan Avrit led with 17 kills and 15 digs. Sophia Ortega also logged a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. Howell compiled 42 assists. Hailey Walker picked up 32 digs, and Isabella Garza found 10 digs.

NEXT UP

UT Southern will travel to New Orleans, La., to face the Wolf Pack on Saturday, September 16th. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
