MT. VERNON, Ga. - The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team scored in double figures for the fourth time this season with a 16-nil rout of Brewton-Parker on Saturday. This was only the second home soccer match for the Barons since hurricane Helene inflicted her wrath on the Southeast. The 16-nil result also has led the Firehawks to lead the NAIA in goals scored at 95 two-pointers in 12 matches.
In the first half, the Firehawks ignited for nine goals over a span of 32 minutes.
Nao Katamoto got the goal scoring frenzy started in the 13
th minute. In the next minute,
Maclani Michael (assisted by
Marina Nawa) would net her first of five goals on the day. Michael would score again in the 15
th minute on another assist by Nawa. In the 19
th, minute,
Keito Ido found the net on a Michael assist. Katamoto scored her second goal on the Nawa helper giving the Firehawks a 5-nil lead.
Hikaru Uchida scored in the 22
nd minute on the
Kamilia Tayebi lag. Minutes later, Michael terminated a
Jessica Glassman pass for her third score of the match. In the 39
th minute,
Mia Saum beat the Baron keeper on the setup by Nawa. Michael completed a first half haul just before the half from the pass by
Karla Montiel. UTS led in shots at the break 25-0 and 18-0 in shots on goal.
In the final half, the Firehawks netted seven more goals to earn another conference win. Four minutes into the half, Nawa beat the Barons again on the Uchida pass. Uchida netted her second in the 51
st minute on a play that was created by Glassman. A minute later, Michael added another goal, recording a glut, from the assist by
Miran Sakai. Katamoto completed a hat trick in the 78
th minute on the
Caroline Hathcox helper. Sharaid Polmeros-Solis added a goal in the 80
th minute assisted by Montiel. Hathcox netted the final two goals assisted by
Kira Goodwin and
Lena Stockfisch. UTS outshot the Barons 47-0 and led 31-0 in shots on goal.
Petra Brncova (5-0) did not face a shot in the clean sheet win.
