PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team got back into Southern States Athletic Conference play defeating Point 6-1 on Wednesday night. The match was chosen as the SSAC Men's Soccer Game of the Week.
In the first half, the Firehawks lit up the scoreboard netting two goals and being gifted a PU owngoal. In the 22
nd minute, a Firehawk cross deep into the Skyhawk zone was cleared into the net by a Point defender. With the 1-nil lead,
Manuel Flores scored off a set piece from outside the 18-yard box in the 32
nd minute.
Carlos Galan beat the PU keeper on a well placed
Nick Miske pass in the 39
th minute. UTS led 14-4 in shots and 8-2 with shots on target at the break.
In the final half, the Skyhawks took advantage of a Firehawk foul to end the clean sheet effort in the 59
th minute. PU was awarded a free kick on the outskirts of the 18-yard box.
Benjamin Chretien finished a
Mak Binder rebound to score his first goal as a Firehawk. In the 71
st minute,
Rostand Essomba found the twine off the free kick from Galan. With the 5-1 lead,
Lorick Gustave picked a Skyhawk defender's pocket and cashed in on a one-vs-one showdown witht eh keeper in the 73
rd minute. UTS dominated the final shot count 24-8 and 12-3 in shots on goal.
Michael Anderson (5-1) worked 90 minutes allowing one goal and recording two saves

The Firehawks will welcome Faulkner University to Grissom Pitch for a Southern States Athletic Conference showdown on Saturday, October 5
th. The Firehawks will honor the squad's seniors during halftime of the women's match. Kickoff is set for four p.m.
