Nawa Nets a Glut, No. 5 Firehawks Celebrate Senior Day with Dominate Win Over Faulkner

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team celebrated senior day with a 17-nil blowout win over Faulkner on Saturday. Seniors honored after the match included Keito Ido, Marina Nawa, Maclani Michael, Kira Goodwin, Natalia Richartz, Madison Wetzig, Jordan Golden, and Miran Sakai.
In the first half, the Firehawks netted eight goals to put the game out of reach early. Ido got the party started in the opening minute scoring off a Jessica Glassman assist. For the next 20 minutes, the Firehawks pelted the Eagle defense with shots only coming up empty. In the 22nd minute, Nawa netted her first of five from the Glassman and Michael helpers. This began a goal scoring frenzy over the next two minutes. Ido would strike again in the 23rd minute pinballing a shot off a Faulkner defender to net her second goal from the Nao Katamoto assist. Glassman snuck into the scoring column in the 24th minute from the Kamilia Tayebi lag.  The final four goals in the first half would come over a five minute stretch closing in on the half. Nawa netted another goal in the 36th minute from the Ido pass. A minute later, Sharaid Palmeros-Solis scored on the rebound of the Ido shot. Nawa completed a first half hat trick in the 38th minute from the help of Karla Montiel and Tayebi. Tayebi netted the final goal of the opening half. Her strike was setup by Palmeros-Solis. UTS led in shots at the half 19-1 with 12 of those on target.
In the final half, the Firehawks scored eight goals in two four goal burst and a lone penalty kick in the final minute. Six minutes in, Katamoto (assisted by  Wetzig) netted her first of two in the final 45. Ido closed out a hat trick from the Katamoto pass in the 52nd minute. Two minutes later, Nawa continued to burn the twine netting her fourth two-pointer from the Ido pass. in the 55th minute, Katamoto scored again off the Michael assist. Glassman completed a senior day brace from the Hikaru Uchida lag in the 64th minute. In the 70th minute, Tayebi found the net again from the Sakai pass. Sakai would add the 15th goal of the day in the 74th minute from the help of Katamoto. Two minutes later Nawa netted her fifth goal from Katamoto's pass. In the final minute, a Faulkner foul in the 18 yard box added a 17th goal in the match. The penalty kick was netted by Uchida. UTS dominated the final shot count 42-1 and 29-1 in shots on goal.  
Stephanie Hodgson (3-0-1) worked the first 45 minutes recording one save. The second half was divided up between Petra Brncova, who started the second half, working 25 minutes, Abby Guy working nine minutes, and Carissa Carvella working 12 minutes neither of the three faced a shot. The quartet shared a clean sheet drumming.
