MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team closed out Southern States Athletic Conference Championship play on Friday. The Firehawks finished pool facing top seed Mobile falling 3-0.
UTS VS MOBILE
The Firehawks fell behind early in the opening set as Mobile opened up a 10-2 lead. UTS tried to battle back with a pair of kills from
Morgan Avrit and one from both
Sophia Ortega and
Emma Beardsley. However, the Ram offensive attack continued to pull away. UM took set one 25-11. In the second set, the Rams started hot leading 10-1 again. Errors hampered the Firehawks as they dropped the second set 25-9. UTS took the early lead in the final set, but three big UM runs put the set out of reach. UTS fell in set three 25-15.
UTS was led in kills by Avrit and Ortega. Avrit had six kills on 24 attempts, and Ortega had six terminations on 25 swings.
Laura Howell had 20 assists in the match.
Isabella Garza recorded 11 digs.
