PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball began their second half of their schedule hosting #10 Georgetown on Monday. UT Southern had the Tigers on the ropes but eventually fell 83-76.
UTS opened up the matinee scoring the first four points on buckets by
Kassidy Broussard and
Ashley Dickey. The Tigers battled back taking the lead at 14-8 with four and a half minutes left. A pair of big buckets closed the Georgetown lead to one after a long triple from Dickey and a fast break layup by
Takiyah Goff, set up by
Silkiari Vazquez-Troche. UT Southern, trailing by one, took and held that lead to the end of the quarter on a layup by
Daysha Reid. UTS led 17-16 after one. The Firehawks shot 51.6 percent,16-31 from the floor, in the opening 20 minutes
In the second quarter, both teams swapped the lead resulting in a tied game at 26 apiece with 5:41 remaining in the half. UTS began a 7-0 run over the next minute and a half. The run that resulted in a 33-26 Firehawk lead began with a Broussard charity shot and included a pair of trifectas by Dickey and Goff. UTS would extend the lead on the #10 team in the nation, leading 42-32 at the break.
In the third, GC put together a 6-1 run in the opening three minutes, cutting the Firehawk lead to five. UTS seeing the lead begin to dwindle, stayed in front until GC tied the game at 49 with under four minutes left in the quarter. The Firehawks outscored the Tigers 10-8 until the quarter horn to lead 59-57 after three.
In the fourth, missed free-throws and untimely turnovers plagued the Firehawks as they trailed 68-64 with 4:50 left. Coming out of the break in action, UTS reeled off the next six points to stun the Tigers and lead 69-68 with 2:39 remaining. Down the stretch, the Firehawks would only be able to close in on the Tigers to trail by four. In the final minute, GC would knock down several free-throws to put the game out of reach.
Four Firehawks scored in double figures in the loss. Dickey led the Firehawks netting 27 points. Vazquez-Troche added 16 points and six assists. Goff contributed 13 points from the bench. Reid missed a double double scoring 12 points and pulling down nine rebounds.

46.8 – The Firehawks outshot the Tigers 29-62 (46.8%) to 26-57 (45.6%) from the field.
