MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team began their second week of competition with a pair of road matches in Ohio. The #4 Firehawks defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 5-1 on Friday.
In the first half, the Firehawks scored two early goals in the opening 30 minutes. In the 23rd minute, Marina Nawa netted her second two-pointer of the season from an assist by Kamilia Tayebi. Tayebi added the second goal from the foot of Keito Ido. The Cougars would add a goal of their own late in the half as UT Southern led 2-1 at the break.
In the final half, UT Southern would pile on three more goals to blow the match open. Ido would net her first goal of the year from the Maclani Michael assist in the 47th minute. Michael would add the final pair for a brace in the match.
Petra Brncova got the start and earned the win moving to 2-0. Brncova faced three shots on target from the Cougars recording two saves. Abby Guy worked between the sticks for the final 24 plus minutes.
