RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer team continued their sweep through the buckeye state with an 8-nil rout of Rio Grande on Sunday.
In the first half, the Firehawks ignited for five goals. UT Southern struck early on the game winner scored by Kamilia Tayebi (Keito Ido assist) inside of the third minute. Ido tacked on the next pair scoring one in the ninth minute (Marina Nawa assist) and another in the 22nd minute (Jessica Glassman assist). In the 31st minute, Hikaru Uchida netted an unassisted score to make it 4-nil. Nawa bested the RedStorm's keeper in the 33rd minute. UTS led 14-1 in shots at the break.
In the final half, the sweltering Firehawk defense kept the home team out of the shot column. UTS added three goals which yeilded a pair of hat tricks. Nawa (Tayebi assist) scored her second two-pointer of the match in the 62nd minute. Ido completed her hat trick two minutes later. Leading 7-nil, Nawa would add another late goal on the rebound of her prior shot for her third score. UTS led the final shot count 28-1 and 13-1 in shots on goal.
Petra Brncova (3-0) didn't face a shot in 27 minutes. Abby Guy worked between the sticks for 37 minutes recording the lone save of the match. Carissa Carvella guarded the net for the final nine plus minutes.

The Firehawks will welcome Shawnee State to Grissom Pitch for 2024 home opener on Saturday, August 31st. The Firehawks and Bears were former conference foes in the Mid-South Conference. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. after the conclusion of the men's match.
