PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team stayed unblemished for the season powered by a 6-nil win over former Mid-South Conference foe Shawnee State on Saturday.
In the first half, the Firehawks burned holes in the nets scoring five two-pointers. Inside of the first minute, Manuel Flores finished a beautiful double assist set up by Carlos Galan and Manuel Silva to take the lead 1-nil. Six minutes later, George Grice netted the Firehawks second goal from the Flores pass. Flores completed his brace in the 18th minute from the setup by Lorick Gustave. Gustave got in the scoring column from another double assist by Tayte Aldridge and Grice. UT Southern wasn't finished as Manuel Villena scored from a Mak Binder pass. The Firehawks led in shots 10-4 in the opening period.
In the final half, the Firehawks kept the Bears out of the scoring column and added a final goal. In the 75th minute, Silva netted a two-pointer from the Flores setup. UTS led 17-8 in the final shot count and 11-3 with on target.
Michael Anderson (3-0) recorded one save working the first half between the sticks. Louis Hester preserved the clean sheet effort recording two crucial saves down the stretch.
