Firehawks Come Up Short Against No.19 Phoenix

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season in an unfavorable result with #19 Cumberland on Tuesday.
In the first half, the Phoenix scored two early goals to lead 2-nil. A CU foul in the box resulted in a penalty chance for the Firehawks in the 20th minute. Carlos Galan's attempt was just wide of the goal. In the 26th minute, Manuel Flores got around a pair of Phoenix defenders to get the home team on the board. CU would add third goal late in the half to lead 3-1 at the break.
In the final half, the Phoenix broke the game open scoring six goals. The Firehawks had several great looks in the half but couldn't connect on them. CU led the shot count 15-9 and held a 10-2 margin in shots on target.
Michael Anderson (4-1) faced 10 shots on target recording one save.
