PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer team began Southern States Athletic Conference play against #16 William Carey on Thursday. Both squads scored goals in the second half, but UTS fell 3-1 in the matchup.
In the first half, both squads would dial up the defensive pressure only allowing a pair of shots for each offensive unit. The Firehawks would have the only shot on target in the first half.
In the final half, the Crusaders scored three goals, 51^st minute, 75^th minute, and 82^nd minute, to take a 3-nil lead. In the final minute, Manuel Villena spoiled the Crusader clean sheet from the hail mary pass from Ezekiel Opie. WCU would lead in shots 14-7 and would lead 8-3 in shots on target.
Louis Hester (0-1) recorded five saves facing eight shots.
