PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team welcomed Southern States Athletic Conference foe Loyola to the CAC on Saturday. The Firehawks gave up the first set but ran off the next three to hand the WolfPack their second conference loss on the weekend.
UT Southern (2-5, 1-1) fell behind in the early going as the visitors began to pull away. UTS closed the gap to trail 9-10, but LU would win 15 of the final 23 points to lead win the first set. In the second set, UT Southern ran off the first five points catching the WolfPack flatfooted. With the score tied at 17 all, the Firehawks claimed 8 points from service aces and a pair of kills by
Emma Beardsley. With the match tied at one set apiece, both squads began to trade points in the early going of set three. The Firehawks would take advantage of two key Loyola errors that led to a lead UTS would not relinquish in the set. With a two-set lead on the WolfPack, both teams swapped errors and points reaching a 7-7 tie. A huge kill by
Sophia Ortega would ignite the Firehawks to run away in the final set to win the match.
