WEST POINT, Ga. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's basketball closed out their final road trip of January battling the Skyhawks. The Firehawks knocked down 12 triples in the 96-64 blowout win on Thursday. UTS improved to 7-6 overall and 6-3 in league play.
Four Firehawks tallied double figures in points.
Ashley Dickey and
Daysha Reid led the Firehawks with 23 points each.
Kassidy Broussard contributed 19 points.
Lauren Smith pitched in 14 points. Reid pulled down nine boards, and
Silkiari Vazquez-Troche dished out 12 assists.
UTS opened the match connecting on three of their first four shots leading 7-0. PU battled back off some Firehawk turnovers to tie the game at nine with under six minutes left in the quarter. Point took their only lead of the game at 12-11 with 3:08 left in the quarter. The Firehawks closed out the quarter outscoring the Skyhawks 14-3 to lead 25-14 after one. UTS shot 11-23 for 48 percent out shooting PU's 5-15 for 33 percent.
The Firehawks opened the second stanza on an 11-0 run jumping to their largest margin of 22 with six minutes left in the quarter. The Skyhawks pushed back to close the gap to seven, but UTS ran off the next seven to end the half with a 45-31 lead. The Firehawks connected on 19-41 from the field including four trifectas.
In the second half, UTS scored the first 11 points again, like the previous quarter. The Firehawks exploded for 29 points in the period leading 74-48 after three quarters. Reid led with nine points in the quarter with four of four from the field. Dickey added seven connecting on four free throws. UTS outshot the Skyhawks 56 to 43 percent.
In the final quarter, UTS led by as many as 35 late in the quarter. The Firehawks continued their hot shooting draining 8-14 from the field. This is the second time this season the Firehawks have crested the 90 point total, and this is the highest offensive output this season.

50.7 – UTS shot 37-73 for 50.7 percent outshooting the Skyhawks' 24-58 (41.4%).
12 – UTS drained a dozen triples, four more than PU.
10 – UTS connected on 10 of 11 free throws, to PU's eight of 10 from the foul line.
31 – The Firehawks pulled down 31 rebounds in the game, four less than the Skyhawks.
24 – UT Southern had 24 assists, Vazquez-Troche had 12.
12 – UTS had 12 steals in the game, nine more than PU.
