HATTIESBURG, Miss. - UT Southern took the court in a hard-fought five-set match on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 3–2 to William Carey University (22–25, 17–25, 25–19, 25–20, 17–15). The Firehawks opened strong, taking the first two sets before the Crusaders rallied late to seal the victory.
Firehawks Highlights
Ashlee Kraft led UT Southern offensively with 17 kills and three aces, contributing 22.0 total points. Emma Beardsley followed closely with 16 kills and nine digs, while Irby Norris added 12 kills on a .312 hitting percentage. Jelleny Mallozzi directed the attack with 44 assists, five aces, and 18 digs, controlling the offense throughout the match. Isabella Garza was steady from the back row with 16 digs and three aces, and Amree Patterson anchored the front line with seven blocks.
Despite a .600 team hitting percentage in the second set and strong service pressure (12 aces overall), the Firehawks were unable to overcome William Carey's late surge.
