PULASKI, Tenn. - In a nationally-ranked Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) clash, No. 25 UT Southern battled No. 14 Life University in an intense matchup at Grissom Pitch. Despite a hard-fought first half and a spirited effort after the break, the Firehawks dropped a 3-1 decision to the visiting Runnin'Â Eagles.
Match Flow
Both sides opened with strong defensive organization, keeping the first half scoreless despite several close calls. UT Southern's midfield—anchored by Mia Saum and Osiris Rodriguez—controlled much of the early possession, while goalkeeper Stephanie Hodgson made key stops to hold off Life's early attacks.
The second half opened with a flurry of action. Life broke the deadlock early in the period before UT Southern answered quickly in the 54th minute as Hikaru Uchida continued her hot scoring streak, netting her fourth goal of the season on an penalty strike to even the match at 1-1.
However, Life regained the lead just a minute later and added another insurance goal in the 71st minute to seal the 3-1 result. UT Southern pressed hard in the closing stages, generating multiple shots from Riho Masuya and Saum, but could not find the back of the net again.
