HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Tennessee Southern volleyball team continued its strong late-season form on Monday evening, sweeping Oakwood University 3–0 (25–17, 25–19, 25–19) in a nonconference matchup. The victory improves the Firehawks' record to 13–9 overall heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
UT Southern controlled the pace from start to finish, using a balanced attack led by Emma Beardsley and Olivia Ward. Beardsley posted nine kills and two solo blocks, while Ward added eight kills and one ace, hitting an impressive .538 for the match. Amree Patterson continued her standout freshman campaign with six kills, one ace, and a solo block, while senior setter Emma Harding directed the offense with 18 assists, one ace, and 10 digs for a double-double performance.
Caity Griffin added seven kills, and libero Isabella Garza anchored the back row with a team-high 15 digs. Jelleny Mallozzi and Irby Norris contributed five kills each, and Ashley Cope provided two service aces to keep Oakwood on the defensive.
UT Southern hit .175 as a team with 41 kills, 37 assists, and six aces, while holding Oakwood to a .100 hitting percentage. The Firehawks' strong defensive presence limited Oakwood's attack and converted several key points at the net to maintain momentum throughout all three sets.
